Hair Talk

I get so many questions about my hair daily. I try to reply to each and every one in lots of detail but it would be so much easier to just be able to attach a link. My hair has been every color, style and length and I have worn clip in extensions for almost five years now so I feel like I know a thing or two when it comes to keeping hair healthy and dying it all sorts of colors. So if you want allllll the details about my hair and upkeep then I hope you get some answers from this post :)

Color

The #1 most asked question I get is about my color. I do not know the exact numbers because I get it professionally done, but you can see my transformation from brunette to ashy white via this link. It is a slow process to get from a darker color to white; the first time it took 6+ hours. There are ways that the process can be sped up; i.e. foils, heat, but I recommend just putting it on with a cap to avoid frying your hair.  I went in with really healthy hair and still ended up having to cut a couple inches off the ends. After the color is always a toner. She uses this all over my head. This helps get the yellow or brassy color out and change it from a blonde to a white.

Extensions

I do wear extensions. Right now I wear these Bellami Ash Blonde in 22" 220grams . My hair is mid length so I do not layer them but the first set I bought I did have my hairstylist shape them around my face. As you can see in the video from the color section we do custom tone them. The first time Shey did it but the second set I bought I just did at home. I fill up a sink with warm water, pump 10-20 pumps of purple shampoo, mix it in, brush each piece of extensions and submerge for 10ish seconds, rinse thoroughly, hang dry and repeat the next day if necessary. I do not brush them when they are wet and I try not to tangle them when I wash them- which is only every 3-6 months depending on how often I am wearing them.

I think a lot of people don't realize that you can custom color your extensions. If you want to go lighter, avoid bleach and use a toner but if you are wanting them darker you can color as your normally would. I have had blonde extensions bright red before, but I did have to wash them every time I washed my hair to avoid my hair and them fading to different tones.

When I do wash my extensions I am sure to use a heavy conditioner on them just to help keep them feeling soft and will use the same products on them that I use on my hair to avoid heat damage. I do wash the pieces individually then let them air dry to avoid pulling pieces out or tangling them.

If enough people are interested I will make a video sometime about how I put all the pieces in. I do it a little different than most of the videos I've seen but it works good for fine, light hair.

Touchups

I don't mind a little grow out. So I only go in every 2-3 months. Each touch up takes about three hours. Like I said, I don't do any foils or heat. So it's a lot of waiting but it's worth it to keep healthy hair. I do get my full head touched up each time. I know some people just do roots and sections but I like the full white color so I get it all done. First she does all of my roots then will put it on the rest of my hair and then it's just a waiting game. Afterwards she will wash it, tone it and wash it again. Not hard, just time consuming.

I do not get trims. Maybe once every year - two years. When I start noticing the ends fall off I'll get it trimmed. But I have been growing my hair out for a couple years now and it grows sooooo slow, so I don't like to cut off all my progress. About 2 1/2 years ago I cut ALL the dead ends off and didn't dye it for almost two years. It was barely past my ears, now it's chest length.

Hair Care

When it comes to hair care I am pretty boring. No special tricks or a plethora of products. I found what I like and I stick to that.

I rarely wash my hair as it is. Even when I shower I will sometimes just wash my body. If my hair is greasy I just throw it in a bun. I have found that since I stopped washing my hair every other day it is SO much healthier. When I do wash it I will use a purple shampoo (leaving it on for the max amount of time it says on the bottle and then some) then I will sit with conditioner in my hair for a long time (normally 30+ minutes) because I don't shower often I don't feel too bad about my long showers.

I wish that I could let it air dry but it's just not going to happen. I have curly, frizzy hair and some random parts and cowlicks so I always dry it. Before I dry it I use 4-ish pumps of Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum which you can get here or any grocery/drug store. I mix 4 pumps of that with a dime size amount of Aquage Straightening Ultragel which you can get here but I always get it from a salon.

I just have to go off for a minute and say how much I LOVE this straightening gel! I have very curly, frizzy hair and this is the only product that has ever worked. My hair is still kind of frizzy but it's straight and easy to do. I don't even have do use a round brush, I just dry it and brush through it with my fingers. Love it.

I use the Paul Mitchell serum AGAIN after my hair is dry. Only two pumps this time and I focus it on the ends of my hair. Then I'll typically curl my hair and my extensions. (I can make a video for that also, it's super easy but hard to explain) I do use the serum in my extensions but not too much. The extensions absorb a lot because I don't want to make them greasy and have to wash them more. I do just enough for a heat protectant so I don't damage them.

I think that's it! Really nothing special but I always seem to get these questions a lot :)

If I missed anything or you have more questions feel free to comment below and I will get back to you asap :)

Your hair is gorgeous girl! I seriously can't believe you were ever a brunette! Blonde (especially the ashy blonde) looks amazing on you. I definitely don't think I could pull it off but you totally rock it!

What purple shampoo did you use to tone your extensions? my hair is a similar color to yours and I'm looking to buy bellami extensions, I can't decide if I should get the beach blonde or the ash blonde??

Thank you!!

I used just a cheap, purple shampoo. I honestly don't remember which one. I've toned two with two different cheap ones and they turned out the same :)
